Humphrey E. Folk, Jr. Folk Construction Co., President/Founder Folk's Folly Prime Steak House, President/Founder
| | “Today’s entrepreneurs will be the pioneers of the next millennium. They must be bold enough to try anything and confident enough to think that they can succeed at everything.” For Humphrey Folk, boldness and confidence are traits that he often demonstrted. For 25 years, he was President and CEO of Folk Properties, and he led the company to be a leader in the construction, farming and real estate.
However, in 1977, Humphrey lamented the fact that Memphis did not have a prime steakhouse, so he set off in a new direction and made it happen. Thus emerged what his family affectionately called “Folk’s Folly,” and a Memphis tradition was born. Folk's Folly was recently named one of America's Top Ten Steakhouses by the Tom Horan America's Top Ten Club and is a recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Restaurants of North America award, an honor bestowed upon only 718 restaurants in North America. The restaurant also received in 1998 the Memphis Business Journal’s Small Business of the Year Award. Humphrey Folk’s community involvements include the Chickasaw Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Child Advocacy Center of Memphis, the Memphis Zoo, the Memphis Botanic Garden, the University of Memphis, Shelby State, and Vanderbilt University.
